Very high quality reel for cheap money

This is my second certate and I really love it. It spins so smooth and the lay is perfect.
Pros
  • Light weight, smooth
Cons
  • Drag should be 25-30lbs!

Best reel I have ever owned
August 20, 2017
This reel is a solid reel. Smooth like glass in fact it spins smoother than my Shimano Stella SWB 6000.
I put 30 lbs test power pro line on my 3500 and with a St. croix mojo 8ft is a perfect match for striper fishing. So far it has landed over 20 stripers without any problem and still spins smoothly like the first day. I really love the carbon fiber rotor feature that reduced the reel weight significantly.
It is a best reel ever created!
Pros
  • Smoother than Shimano Stella SW
  • Light weight
  • Strong body
  • Smooth drags
  • I suggest 3500 size for striper fishings
Cons
  • I wish Daiwa made the handle knob out of aluminum instead plastic !

Awesome Reel
July 13, 2017
It's an impressive work of very functional art that reels like greased butter and has plenty of power. The design and machining are impeccable, and paired with my 7'6" St. Croix Avid, it has quickly become my favorite reel.
Pros
  • Light, strong, incredibly smooth, absolutely beautiful, and packed with all the high end Daiwa tech at sale price.
Cons
  • Puts my other reels to shame.

Every bit as good as I hoped...
July 6, 2017
More capacity than the 3500HD is just what I was looking for, my HD4000SH-JDM's are every bit as tough as the long running and successful smaller cousin was. Good drag and super strong internals will see these reels stay in my collection for another 10 years of use. For the price, these reels are unbeatable in my opinion.
Pros
  • Super strong components that are well balanced and will stand the test of time.

Will do good on surf fishing special on Florida pompano
1 Answers
The Daiwa Certate-HD4000SH-JDM Certate Spinning Reel might be a bit small of a reel for surf fishing. The Shimano Ultegra XTD Surf spinning reels would be a good reel fishing for pompano.

What is the comparable size of the 4000 reel to a Shimano or Penn 4000? Its line capacities suggest that it is larger than the USA size of 4000?
1 Answers
A 4000 size Daiwa reel is generally more comparable to a 5000 size Penn.

Is this reel for salt or fresh water ? I wish to bass fish and concerned of size ??? Too big ????
1 Answers
The Certate is built for both salt and freshwater. Assuming that you are referring to Largemouth and Smallmount bass, I would recommend a smaller reel in the 2500 size range.

The descriptions that I see for this reel say that it is completely sealed (like a Van Staal VR or VS), but I saw one of your responses that said it is not. Can you confirm which is correct? Thanks!
1 Answers
The mag seal system referred to in the description makes for a highly water resistant reel but does not mean a full waterproof seal. The Certate is designed to be unaffected by boat spray or quick accidental dunks but is not protected from extended full submersion.
