Good Combo
July 27, 2022
This is a pretty nice combo. I put 50lb Jbraid on it. Used it crab snaring and the rod holds up pretty good. I have the Penn Battle 3 5000 and I prefer the Bg over it. The little difference in weight is not noticeable.
Pros
  • Exceptionally good reel
Cons
  • Don't see any yet

Casting dream
October 31, 2021
I ordered this for surf fishing mostly and some boat fishing. Got the Diawa BG4500 spooled up with 50 lb braid, (I think it held about 280 yards) It cast smooth and even with the 9 ft rod you can sling it on out there. Reeling it in is equally smooth and it pulls like a winch. The 9 ft 2 piece broken down fits perfectly across the back seat headrest of my 150 crew cab so it can stay in the truck pretty much 24/7. Unfortunately only got to test it out on some spanish and blues so far but I'm headed back soon.
Pros
  • Smooth with plenty of retrieval power and tons of capacity especially with braid. Handle fits my hand very well.
Cons
  • None I have found yet.

great reel, cheap rod with this 6500 combo

went snapper fishing and literally snapped the rod on my first keeper (16" Red Snapper). The reel is awesome but the action on the rod and the build quality is poor.

This combo spooled with 10 lb. test line was the tool of choice for my fall surf fishing trip.
Landed drum up to 30 inches and had a blast with this light and comfortable combo.

Awesome product

I usually travel to Mazatlan Mexico and this combo it’s amazing for every type of fishing ... I originally bought this one for my son but I use this combo at rivers lakes mangroves at the beach I have a 12 ft rod but my son he uses this one and he loves it it’s amazing and makes the job Done ... the reel by itself is amazing my son doesn’t have any trouble reeling the fish and I have the same reel bg 8000 for the surf fishing and it’s amazing BG hands down it’s one of the few reels budget/performance ever made this guy can compete with the big reels that cost 3 times more than this one
Pros
  • Everything
Cons
  • It might be a little bit heavy but nothing out o this world after 2-3 days you will get used to it... talking about the 5000 and up ... 4000 and down they are actually really light

Good budget combo

If you’re in between budget and performance this is your combo. The BG is simply a reliable tank that’ll withstand jetty use. Although I would not recommend reeling it under water in the surf it’s still a fantastic boat combo or jetty combo

Hi, please I need more info about the rod. Lure weight, power, 1 or 2 pieces, name of the rod, etc!
1 Answer
The reel and rod are both Daiwa BG's, it is a one piece rod heavy power fast action 7 foot in length. This rod doesn't have a lure rating.

What line size is the rod rated for and what size lures is it rated for? I'm looking for something to catch large size snook, redfish, and tarpon on. I have not been able to find much information on this rod. The reel will work great.
1 Answer
There isn't a lure rating but the line rating is 20-40lbs / Braid 65lbs per Daiwa's website

Is this rod capable for uses in pier and jetty fishing? I usually use bait along with small swimbaits occasionally. I want something that can withstand hauling fish up a pier and over rocks. This looks like a great rod for that. What is the biggest fish you have caught on it?
1 Answer
This combo has plenty of backbone to lift fish over a pier however its always a good idea to have a pier net handy so you wont damage your rod.
