Great value rod
September 16, 2021
Have used a 12’ Beefstick now for almost an entire year, it throws 3-4oz best. Compared to my $300+ 13’ rods, I think it casts about 85-90% as far at 1/6th the price. I love my other rods but this thing is a work horse, so far so good. Love the soft tip for bite detection of smaller fish. Have also caught a 4’ shark with it

You can't beat the value and versatility of this rod! I received my order quickly, and in perfect shape from Tackle Direct. Pulled in my first fish of 2019 on it. A 40 lb Paddlefish! Pole performed great, and will be seeing a lot of use this year, and in the years to come!

Fantastic for the price

I have the 8 and 10 foot versions I purchased the 8 ft. when I first decided to give surf fishing a try. I did not want to dump a ton of cash on something too expensive in the event I did not enjoy it. That was about 8 years ago I purchased the 10 footer a year later. these are great bait rods. I've caught gator blues, bull reds, stripers and assorted sharks and rays with them. I would be more than pleased with them if they gave up on me tomorrow. They don't owe me a dime. I still drag them along whenever I head to the beach or jetty. They are both still going strong. I've since moved up to more expensive surf gear but I tend to use the beefstick for slinging cut bait with a lot of weight or if I'm introducing someone new to surf fishing. You don't care as much when they get dragged out of the sand spike and down the beach (happened more than once). If your new to the game and are looking for something reasonable to give it a try this is a good place to start.
Pros
  • Strong and durable
  • guides hold up well to braid
  • reel seats stay tight and are solid
Cons
  • not ideal for casting and working lures
  • guides not as corrosion resistant as more expensive rods (be sure to rinse them down regularly)

Reel Holder spins around rod
September 1, 2018
After using this reel, BFSF1002MHRS, two times, the rod holder has started to spin around the rod. One outing for about 6 hrs and the second for about 3 hrs. The spinning reel mounted was a Kastking Pontus 5000.

Love the rod and TackleDirect
July 2, 2018
Planning a trip to the Texas coast in July. Going to spend most of my time surf fishing this time instead of fishing the channels. I needed a spinning surf rod for my Okuma bait feeder reel. After doing a lot of research, decided to go with the Beefsticks.TackleDirect was the only store that had them in stock. Was worried about the shipping after reading the horror stories from other sites about the rods being broken. TackleDirect does it right. The tubes that they ship the rods in are indestructible. I will purchase all my future rods from them. They are awesome! The rods? So far so good. Have not used them yet, but Beefstick definitely means Beef! From playing with them, I think I could haul a car in out of the surf. The rods are a heavy rod, made for chunking heavy bait. Quality seams awesome. Will no more at the end of July.
Pros
  • Fast shipping
  • Shipping protection
  • Quality
  • Price
Cons
  • Haven't found any yet

purfect rod for bottom fishing
October 26, 2017
using this rod to surf fish for sharks. heavy duty rod. for the money it is hard to beat. i wouldn't suggest using it for casting lures all day but to hurl bait out a good distance and leaving it, it will do the job. don't expect this to be a life long rod, you will probably get 2 or 3 years of good use. but for the price buy a new one in a few years if you need to
Pros
  • affordable
  • well built
Cons
  • little on the heavy sude

2 years in - an excellent rod
August 22, 2017
I bought this rod to start surf fishing the Florida panhandle. I have caught pompano, shark, gulf kingfish, bull redfish among many others on this rod. It has performed great usually paired with a Shimano Spheros 5000 reel using 20lb braid. I highly recommend this rod to someone looking to get into surf fishing. Since I have become a more experienced surf fisherman, I bought a Shimano tiralejo. The Tiralejo is in another league regarding casting distance, sensitivity, but also in price.
Pros
  • Durable
  • Cheap
  • Strong
Cons
  • Slight rusting of the guides after 2 years exposed to sea air

Best Bang For Your Buck........Period!
April 15, 2015
This rod at this price is the very best bang for you buck there is.....period!! Stout rod, with plenty of strength, and back bone for long cast with heavy weight+bait and for fightinh those big fish. I have 2 of thses rods for heavy surf fishing here on the outerbanks of NC. It is comforting to know that when I have a big red drum on, that I do not have to worry about this rod at all, so I can concentrate on fighting the fish and the drag. I will be buying more of this rod in the future. I am also recommending this rod to all my surf fishing buddies as well.
Pros
  • Nice ballance. Not as heavy for a big rod as I thought it would be.
Cons
  • I cant think of a single con.

Which are the shipping dimensions? Is this rod good for fishing from the shore in a beach with a lot of waves?. Which reel is suitable for this rod?. Thanks.
1 Answers
The rod will be shipped in a tube similar height of the rod your inquiring about. I would use a 9' or 10' Daiwa Beefstick-SF Spinning Surf Rod for the style of fishing your doing. The Okuma AV-65b Avenger B Series Spinning Reel would fit the 10' model and the 55 size Okuma Avenger for the 9' model.

what Daiwa BG reel would work for this rod
1 Answers
That depends on the model. I'd suggest the 3000 for the 7' model, the 4000 for the 8' model, the 4500 for the 9' through 11' models and the 5000 or 5500 for the 12 footer.

Can this thing handle a shark? I need a rod suitable for sharks and other game. I don't need one for 12 foot bulls and tigers, but for smaller species like browns and black tips. If this rod is not the thing, any suggestions?
1 Answers
You'd be able to land smaller species of sharks with the Beefstick.
