The Daiwa Back Bay series of rods was designed for those crazy anglers who love big fish on lighter tackle. These versatile rods were designed with East Coast back bay fishing in mind, but can easily translate over into other fishing markets across the US. These extra-fast action rods have a soft enough tip to launch lighter jigs, bucktails, and plugs, but enough back bone to put the brakes on a big striper or redfish. These are the perfect rods to pair with Daiwa's Saltist Back Bay Reels. All models are covered under a limited 5 year warranty through Daiwa.

Reel pairing for heavy long handle and difference from Daiwa sol
August 5, 2022
I would say I had the wrong reel on this rod originally making it tip heavy. there for making the rod too heavy. This rod pairs nice with a Spheros 5000 sw.

I purchased a diawa sol 7’ medium heavy and the bottom on Sol is different it has a bottom for boat use. Will leave black markings on hand (the Sol) have caught stripers up to 31” and handled well.

Pros
  • Sensitive rod tip.
  • Long handle good for longer casts that allow for more powerful casts .
  • Will handle above the wiring by rating
  • Pairs well with saltwater reels 14 oz and up .
  • Accurate casting
  • Good looking rod
Cons
  • Not much, it?s a 1 piece
  • Pricey
  • Locking but sometimes is annoying

The rod is very good looking- I purchased a Long Handle Heavy- Will caest 3 oz sinkers with small baits if needed. guides are small and my double uni knots will rub the guide. The guides have shown a little bit of rust, but I fish for long periods of time and don't always scrub them the same day. very strong rod have found that it pairs very nicely with quantum cabo 40, but have also used with stradic 5000 FK. caught 33" blues and subdued but didn't land on the dock, an estimated 37"-snook. Leader broke when I tried touching the line. I got the extra long handle because I read that the longer butts allow for longer cast. I bought a second one (same action) as I left the first one in FL for the snook action. Cons: I believe the Diawa Sol is similar build and less $. Liking these Diawa rods, but havent tried all the other brands.
Pros
  • Pairs nicely with my Quantum Cabo PTSE 40 and have taken 33" blue fish and subdued but didn't land a 36" snook around dock pilings.
  • Will cast 3oz sinkers (lobbed) in a pinch.
  • When paired with stradic 5000 FK got great distance
  • XF makes for great hook sets (not many swallowed rigs) I don't lose fish.
Cons
  • slight rust on guide from sw exposure
  • Diawa Sol is same (from what I can tell) and less $
  • Fazlite not as good as alconite or Silicon inserts
  • Slightly Heavy after long periods of fishing( I have the Heavy extra long handle)

Extra fast action is No good

Rod with long button is nice. But action: extra fast is stupid design. I can’t cast far, extra fast is hard, extra fast almost are stupid. I like fast action, moderate fast action

Got the 7-6 MHXS as a backup or occasional rod. Very impressed with the quality. I am a fan of XS action. This rod did not dossapointed. Paired it with the Back Bay 4000 reel and there I made the best combo between the same reel and rod options available.
Pros
  • Quality
  • Sensitivity
  • Weight

Bought this for a popping cork rod. Put a Back Bay 4000 on and it casts a cajun thunder like a rocket. I'll be buying another soon.
Pros
  • Good looking, well made rod
