100 lb yellowfin - 6500 model
July 9, 2020
Used it only once on a chartered tuna fishing trip. Used 80lb braided with appropriate rod with a top water sardine lure. Pulled in a 100lb yellow fin. Reel did its job and b/c I was on a charter boat full of people, I had to pull it in fast. Took an hour for my arms to recover. I'll try this out jigging on my next trip out. I used my friend's stella on the previous trip and there is no difference.
Pros
  • Looks expensive and high quality.
Cons
  • Its not cheap.

Absolute beast
January 20, 2020
This reel is an absolute beast. Has so much drag and line capacity it is ridiculous for a spinning reel. This thing will last for forever if taken care of properly. Definitely impressed with it and absolutely love it. Need to get the new one now.
Pros
  • Drag, line capacity, aesthetics it looks sick
Cons
  • Cant think of any

Swiss clock of spinning reels

very rigid, extremely well sealed, excited to really test it.
Pros
  • fit and finish, completely sealed
Cons
  • little more resistance than reeling than expected. this is probably due to the sealing of the reel. makes just a little more noise than expected when reeling.

Biggest and baddest spinner
December 3, 2018
I use mine for targeting bigger sharks on spinning gear. Will and 150lb+ fish in under 30 minutes. Excellent reel.
Pros
  • 60+ lbs of drag, holds alot of line. Aesthetically beautiful.
Cons
  • Chipping on the outer paint job, requires a good cleaning after every saltwater application.

Saltiga 6500h Dog Fight & 7000H Dog Fight
September 12, 2018
Fishermen after big catfish have long adapted salt water gear to land trophy Catfish. I use these two Dog Fights below dams in very very strong current. Strong current big flatheads from the bank are rarely landed. Put the Dog Fight on them and problem solved. Tsunami 1202xxh & Lami GSB No problemo !!!!!
Pros
  • Extremely easy cranking, 66lbs of drag if you ever need it. Beautiful reels. Durable, reliable. Worth every dime knowing this reel won't let the trophy of a life time get away !!!
Cons
  • I only have two !!!

Not what I expected
June 3, 2018
Took this reel along with a couple of Stellas (14000 for jigging and 20000 for popping)

I loved the look and feel of the reel, it worked hard and easily managed to land 100lb+ yellow fine, drag was great, and almost a smooth as the stella.

my big disappointment is the paint job, I cant believe after one week of fishing there is bubbling on the paint at the base of the reel, incredible on brand new reel. to add to this a massive amount of paint has come off around the the reel seat and shaft.

for the money I paid this is extremely disappointing. the 2 stellas that worked just as hard in difficult weather conditions are still in perfect condition as you would expect.
Pros
  • Look and feel, drag and power of the reel, good weight for the size off reel
Cons
  • Paint and durability of the paint job, already corroding after 1 weeks fishing, and chipping around the handle

Well worth every penny

Perfect example of you get what you pay for. Reel performs exceptionally well, super smooth and tough. Takes a beating and still works like new time in and time out. If you're ever interested in a reel in this class, the saltiga is worth taking a look at.
Pros
  • Super smooth
  • Strong drag
Cons
  • Price but you get what you pay for

Pure joy.
December 20, 2017
I've been looking at the Saltiga series for many years. Once the redesign in 2015, it was time to get one and I was not disappointed. I have fished extensively with my buddy's 2 new Stellas. They are great reels on their own accord, but for my money I chose Daiwa. I enjoy jigging and plugging offshore, especially landing big fish on light tackle with artificials. These reels well paired with a high-end rod not only are very capable, they are a dream to fish with.
Pros
  • Durability
  • Appearance
  • Drag capacity and smoothness
  • Line capacity
  • Customer service. Had an accident with a hatch door and Daiwa USA handled it.
  • Reel handle able to switch sides easily
  • Overall design and functionality

Great for Tarpon, Snook and Tuna
May 22, 2017
This is my second Saltiga reel. I use both of them to fish Tarpon and other large fighting fish in Costa Rica and Belize. Excellent quality and line capacity for fish that like to run. Smooth drag also.
Pros
  • Line capacity and nice balance. Knob handle is also very nice.
Cons
  • With some of my rods, this reel will not seat firmly. Not sure if it's the rod or the reel causing the issue. I just wrap the reel fins with a little electrical tape and then seat it into the rod. Works great and I'm good to go.

Would the 5000H be a good fit for the Zenaq Expedition 83-S?
1 Answer
The Daiwa saltiga 5000H will match up well with this rod. A 4000 will also pair well with it.
