Great Largemouth Bass Lure?
July 19, 2019
I am known for trying out weird things in fishing. Like using saltwater lures in freshwater and the other way around. Well ...,Today tried out my large Chub on our 26.acre lake whose large mouths are known to be very picky. Made a long cast with my Van Staal Reel with12 foot surf rod, Reeled in very slowly with a few pops every so often. Suddenly the chub was struck just below the surface. After a considerable battle, I was very pleased to pull in a 21 inch large mouth cow. Now this bass would never please a southern fisherman. But in Michigan that is considered to be a very nice fish. Something that may interest (some) fishermen. After 30+ years of fishing the same lake, I have noticed the following...Fish seem to learn from their mistakes unlike some people. Lures in the past that were highly successful suddenly stop working. Even years later our fish will not touch them. Could they somehow be passing the information on to others? Silly thought. Huh?
Pros
  • Reasonable price. Cast very far with the right rod and wind conditions.
Cons
  • Sinks too quickly.

Not my favorite topwater
August 2, 2017
Have to work them fast to keep the lure on the surface. I agree with other reviews, not really a popper, more of a pencil stick bait. I purchased the metallic one and the chrome paint is chipping off after just a few outings. Have yet to catch a fish on it.

Highly Effective if Used Properly
December 18, 2016
This lure should be used when the water is pretty calm and there is bait near the surface so that the bass are surface oriented. It is also important to give it the proper action: get it moving slowly as soon as it
hits the water to keep it from sinking then skitter it across the surface about 6 feet then pop it gently a couple times and repeat until a striper knocks the you- know- what out of it. I've had real good luck with
Striper Strikes for over 50 years but you've got to use them properly.
Pros
  • Imitates a panicked baitfish
  • Casts like a bullet
  • Spectacular hits
Cons
  • requires a certain degree of operator skill

Better worked as a pencil

Great little lure for bass and blues. Work it more like a pencil than a regular popper.

  • casts well
Cons
  • none

Time tested lure
November 8, 2015
This lure has stood the test of time and continues to catch fish today. It casts very well and must be retrieved quickly with some pumping action to cause surface disruption. I swap out the rear treble hook with a single dressed hook.
Pros
  • Cast well
Cons
  • hooks may rust if not rinsed.
