The Cotton Cordell Red-Fin Lure works well with being twitched on top. It can run erratically with a twitch-twitch-pause retrieve action. This wake bait wobbles on a straight retrieve. This lure is made with top of the line construction and components. Works well when retrieved slowly on the top water to provoke strikes from bass as well as big stripers. Perfect for targeting bass, striper, and redfish species.

classic that catches fish
January 25, 2022
Inexpensive classic that catches stripers. This is my preferred minnow-style plug, it seems to outproduce the others where I fish. 4 stars because the stock hardware isn't great and you'll want to load it to improve the casting. But it's worth it.
Pros
  • Inexpensive fish catcher
  • Can be worked with a variety of retrieves and presentations
  • Seems to imitate a variety of forage
Cons
  • not the greatest stock hooks, doesn't cast well

Schoolie, First Cast!
July 8, 2021
Love it when a plan comes together. I recently read that swimmers, specifically the redfin were good for bright mid-day fishing. I picked up a chrome and black 7" and added it to my tackle bag. Around 2pm I stopped off at a salt pond inlet, tied on the redfin and wouldn't you know it, 1st cast landed me a schoolie. SOLD, just ordered another in silver & blue!
Pros
  • Cost efficient
  • Great swimming action
Cons
  • A little light, but google "redfin loading"
  • Hardware is a little thin, easy upgrade though.

Excellent low cost swimmer

These cotton cordell swimmers are great. They catch fish. They don't cast as far as a sp minnow, nor do they have as heavy duty hardware but they can easily be upgraded with better treble hooks. Can't beat these for the price!
Pros
  • Inexpensive, but catch fish
Cons
  • Hardware isn't too beefy if you're targeting big fish, casts OK but not super far

My go to lure. Although extremely light
You are able to basically customize with
The addition of either liquids, BB's or split
Shot to add weight. The standard for liquid
Is 10cc's. Being reasonably priced you
Can still pay the mortgage if you lose a few of these. Change up the stock split
Rings and hooks. I've embarked on
Totally eliminating treble hooks on all
My lures where possible for improved
Catch and release success. It's easier
On fish and possibly the fisherman who
Can end up hooked also.
Pros
  • Topwater action
  • Color selection
  • Can be loaded
  • Reasonable Price
  • Repaintable
Cons
  • Light- may not cast well
  • During certain conditions.
  • Belly and tail trebles
  • Weak split rings

This lure is deadly when loaded with BBs or water. It will cast better. It is very effective at a slow retrieve.

These plugs catch fish. They do not cast well, so they are usually loaded with something i.e. water / BBs.
Pros
  • Catch fish
Cons
  • Do not cast well unless loaded.

Classic lure that catches fish

I like to customize these lures by drilling a small hole and adding some lead shot. This not only gives the lure extra weight for casting, but with a little fiddling you can make the lure barely float or slowly sink.

I've used red fins for quite some time now, & i have to say, one of the best swimmers around, the only thing I don't like is that they don't cast very well, other than that, great plug for your arsenal

At 7" larger than the SP minnows and run nice and shallow. Hold true in strong current. Can't wait for the fall surf striper bight to get here
