The Century Sling Shot Series rods are moderate fast, crisp action rods. They are designed for long distance plugs and baits. The moderately fast action combined with a quick recovery allows for the Sling Shot series rods to have optimum performance. These rods with their maximum distance, as well as fish fighting ability make these rods a perfect match with aerodynamic plugs and bait.

great rod
November 30, 2018
i was previously using a Penn carnage2 10ft (MH) for surf casting and decided to upgrade the SS1267. i am happy with the performance of this rod. with a 3oz lead...this rod casts a little further (compared to the Penn) with less effort. Penn weighs in at 16oz and the SS1267 comes in at 14oz which is a plus as its a little less tiring when fishing for hours at a stretch. would recommend the SS1267 to anyone looking to move into a higher end rod. my only complaint is that the SS looks damn plan aesthetically. you'd imagine a $500 rod to look a little nicer...in that respect the Penn carnage2 is a beautiful rod with nicer (and thicker) rubber grips. however...but looks are secondary to performance...overall...and awesome rod..
Pros
  • casts great. light weight. sensitive to even the smallest bites.
Cons
  • looks very plain.

Pros
  • unmatched casting distance
  • sensitive.
  • can throw a wide range with ease
Cons
  • price, but you get what you pay for

Perfect Surf Rods

honestly, century makes the best surf rod in the world IMO. they cast better than any other rod i've used, have great back bone and even better durability. I have both the 10' 6" and 11' sling shot models and have used both for years without a hiccup. best rods on the market.

Wow!!! Hands down best surf rod I have ever used and owned
August 25, 2017
This surf rod is extremely light and versatile. The distance this rod can cast is outstanding, loads up nice and casts a mile. I have thrown 1/2oz bucktails to 4oz of lead and a chunk with this rod and it handles it well. First time chunking with this rod and I landed a sandbar shark. Paired it with a quantum Cabo 50, can cast all day and not have any fatigue in my arm or shoulder. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to make a step up to a high end surf rod, I'm glad I did and will never ever regret it. Don't let the price deter you, it's WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!! We all know you pay for what you get in the fishing industry, so why not treat yourself with this?!?!? Go for it

Nice rod...casts a mile & handles 1 to 3 ounce lures with ease. I use it exclusively for top waters and paired it with a Shimano Ultegra 5500 - nice combination! Service was excellent, my goto online supplier!
Pros
  • Great for tossing 1 & 2 ounce plugs and tins...w/o fatigue. Perfect length for the surf!
Cons
  • None...fits nicely between my 9'6" and my 11' rods.

So Far So Good!
December 7, 2016
After doing a lot of research I decided to try out a Century brand product...and went with the SS1145, it will be used exclusively for tossing top waters and small metals. Once I made the decision to buy I
needed to find a retailer - I am just getting back into surf fishing now that I am semi-retired but haven't stayed current with distributors and retailers over the years. So, more research, when I found Tackle
Direct. Loved the product videos and selection - long story short I ordered from them (and a couple weeks later a new Penn Torque spinning reel) and the experience was perfect. Rod (and later the reel)
arrived on time and in perfect condition...very impressed with the packaging used, actually took me over 20 minutes to open the rod tube! Anyway - this is more of a review of Tackle Direct's competence
as winter has sit in here in the northeast and I wasn't able to use the new rod and reel this Fall...but have already been doing tons of research on hot spots for next season!
Pros
  • Service was excellent - great inventory, quick turnaround, good prices...and they kept me current as to order/shipping status.
Cons
  • None

Sling Shot SS 1265
July 15, 2015
I was searching for the perfect distance rod for the Canal and some of the other spots I fish. This rod delivers the distance. Surprisingly, the lightness & tip "play" lets you work pencils & other lures all the way back & that, not the terrific distance, is what I like most about these rods.
Pros
  • Exceptional Casting Distance. Very light. Nice soft tip for working pencils. True 2 piece design for easy transport.
Cons
  • You pay for what you get. This rod was totally worth it.

I pair with vs 200 and vs 150

Hi Team, what is the best pair reel for the SS1327? i want distance casting with sinkers mainly but i also want to be able to do lures
1 Answer
Hello Islam, the Shimano Ultegra ci4+ surf spinning reel in the 5500 would pair well with the 11 foot Century Sling Shot. Another option would be the 8000 size Shimano Saragosa.

It may affect the way the rod loads but not enough to make a difference in casting.

Rod?

I would recommend a 10'-11' Heavy rated rod. the SS1329 in this model Century rod would  work but may be on the heavy side.

I would recommend looking into the ODM Jigster or Frontier X model rods would be perfect for your fishing application
