Second unit so I can have dual units.
July 25, 2018
I just bought my second unit. The first one has been great it does need to be rebuilt after a fishing season, but the parts are very cheap to replace.

It’s a good quality downrigger.
Pros
  • Durable finish and good workability
Cons
  • Need to be rebuild after a fishing season (parts are not expensive to replace)

this down rigger broke within seconds of trying to use it. When trying to get it back in the box to return it the wire became unravelled and after two hours trying to untangle it, I put the entire downrigger in the trash and never hope to see it again. even if it was repaired I'm sure it would quickly malfunction again.
the braking mechanism is very cheap. overall the construction of the gear mechanism is very poor.
please don't waste your money on their down riggers.

I have owned several cannon downriggers in the past. I purchased this one to mount beside my old style uni-troll 10. Cannon has made many changes and it doesn't even look similar so at first I was skeptical why fix something that is not broken but after installing the new base I felt better about the security of the mount, (I lost an old style once due to a poorly locked tab), can't happen with the new style. I also like the faster retrieve rate due to the larger spool size. Cannon did very good and I highly recommend this model for manual downrigger.

Great deal

Easy to use and seems well engineered. I had to swap out the mounting hardware for longer bolts, but other than that, it was easy to install and came with all the necessary hardware. Look forward to putting it to use.
Pros
  • Easy to use, easy to install
Cons
  • Rod holder might not be able to handle a large grouper slamming a stout rod.

Quality product

My order was delivered quicker than promised which is always nice. Assembly was real easy following the instructions. I have only been able to use them twice but they have performed very well and are easy to use. My only complaint is the amount of port to starboard movement they have with the adjustable bases. The end of the boom has about 4" of movement with the boom set at 2 feet in length. I wonder how long it will be before that movement causes something to break.

is this the complete kit, inc the release clip and weight?
1 Answer
The various Ball Weights are an accessory item and they do not come with the riggers. As well as the release clip, unfortunately. But, Canon has several different types of "Release Clips or Line Releases" that are listed as Accessories on their website: http://store.cannondownriggers.com/category/324580/Line_Releases

Plan on buying this downriigger to troll Tony Maja bunker spoons does his bungee system take place of the pole
1 Answer
To Troll the Bunker spoon effectively the Rod is imperative, it gives the spoon the action of the side to side flutter mimicking a wounded Bunker. The bungee is to secure the rod and reel to your boat, It is a safety line.
