Definitely more abrasion resistant, so while fishing off the beach, in muscle beds, or rocky areas in general you don't have to worry about the line cut off like you do with braid. Mono will last you a pretty long time so that a good thing. When it does eventually wear out you can unspool it and re spool it from the side that was touching the saltwater in order to get brand new line that has never seen salt water. Problems with mono are it doesn't sink as fast as fluro or braid, and because it has a stretch to it it's sometimes harder to get your hook set
