- thin
- Thin, strong, abrasion resistant, easy to tie, smooth.
After a full season I have nothing but accolades for this line. Ultra strong and from the research I have done, comparing manufacturers specifications Berkley X9 is the smallest diameter braid available. In some cases the diameter difference between X9 and other leading braids can be as much as XX%. For example the dimeter of 15lb X9 is 0.14mm. PowerPro 15lb braid comes in at .008in or .203mm. That is nearly a 30% difference!
With such small diameters it seems the difference may be trivial. BUT... fish down 30, 50, 60 plus feet with strong currents over the entire length of line and the difference is VERY real.
The line also casts very well. Again thin diameter wins this game again and again. Have not experienced any memory issues. The line lays very well onto the spool.
The above is only 15 lb test. Same big differences as one moves up the strength ladder.
The line is strong. Easy to tie and holds up well under repeated often saltwater outings.
This stuff is great.
Pic below the bass was taken on an 8ft GSB, VR50 spooled with 15lb Berkley X9
- (1) Thinnest diameter of any major braid.
- (2) Ties well.
- (3) Casts great even into heavy wind
- (4) No memory
- (5) Spools neatly
- (6) Reduces current drag.
- (7) Strong, strong, strong!
- (1) The crystal clear stains real easy. So if you have murky water like we often will see along the northeast coast... the line will take on brownish color. Thus I prefer the green.
- (2) Not really and issue but worth mention. With such thin braid you have to be sure to properly tie your mono or fluoro leader using a good knot that digs into the leader material... like an Alberto or F.
- (3) SO thin that my old eyes sometimes just cant see the line. LOL
- Durability, strength, color,
