Great lure scent for crappie
July 2, 2020
I started using Powerbait Crappie Nibbles years ago after reading an article that they enhanced your chances during winter when the water is colder and fish metabolism has slowed. It turned out the article was right. My catch ratio soared so much that I now use them all the time, even in warm weather. A good friend and a great crappie fisherman who scoffed at the idea, and who constantly out caught me, started using them after watching me out catch him.
Pros
  • These nibbles are easy to grasp, even with my arthritic fingers, and place on a hook. They last a long time and, even if they dry out and harden, I have found putting a small, wadded up damp paper towel in the jar with them will bring them back to softness.
  • They also come in several colors. I like the white color because as I read once, they look like an egg sac and that made some sense to me.
Cons
  • The only con I have ever read is that if the nibbles are too fresh they'll crumble more easily. I've never found that to be a problem, but maybe because that's because I usually split my bottle into smaller portions that allow them to age better. It also means I don't lose all my nibbles at one time.
  • Bream also love these nibbles and that is the most common way I lose them off the jig. It is fascinating to me how a bream can grab the nibble, and in most cases, not hook themselves.
