Widely known for its ability to outperform all other soft plastics, and at times, even live bait, the Berkley Gulp! Alive Swimming Mullet is the ultimate weapon when targeting any game fish. Berkley's Gulp! Alive series of baits come in a hard plastic container floating in a generous amount of what many anglers call "Gulp Juice ", or what Berkley has referred to as their "Magic Gravy". This fluid has a specially formulated scent that is absorbed by the baits and then dispersed throughout the water to attract fish. The resealable containers allow you to recharge your baits after long periouds of use to increase their effectiveness. Berkley Gulp! products have been proven to be effective for a wide variety of species up and down the coast, but are particularly favored by Northeastern anglers who target flounder and black sea bass.

  • The tail comes off after a few strikes or nibbles

Great for Flounder!
February 15, 2022
These Berkley Gulp work like a charm on saltwater fishing and especially for Flounder fishing. I have these and its fun to know there are so many bites waiting. Even the small fishes take a bite too. The only draw back is that the tail piece is not as long lasting. If they can improve that it be a 5 star for sure. Also the tail to me is much more important than the rest. Tail gives it that action fishes looking for. :-)
Pros
  • Gets your bites for sure!
Cons
  • The tail doesn't last as long, and tail is where it gives it that action

Highly Effective Especially In Dirty Water
December 12, 2021
Sometimes you need just a bit more on a tough day, and the glow capability of these get the job done. I use these on teaser hook for ocean fluke bucktail rigs. I will usually start the day with a pearl color, but if the water looks dirty, I will go to these and they get results.
Pros
  • Reusable and stores easy
Cons
  • Not cheap

Highly Effective Artificial
December 12, 2021
These work, period. My go to on teaser for fluke bucktail rigs. When they aren't catching fluke, they catch the heck out of sea bass. Hold one in the current and you can see the action on the tail.
Pros
  • Reusable and easy to store
Cons
  • Not cheap

On the 12.5 oz container what size are they and how many come in the container? Also do they come in a variety of colors in one container or do you have to buy separately?
1 Answer
Colors are sold separately, on the 12.5 oz container the length of the gulp is 4 inches, Berkley doesn't have a set number listed of how many gulp lures are in a 12.5 oz container but buy just looking at it i would say theres about 30-40.

Hi Fred, I would recommend a Penn Spinfisher VI SSVI5500 Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-spinfisher-vi-ssvi5500-spinning-reel.html This would be a great size for fishing for fluke for your beach fishing application. need hook size recommendations for inshore fluke and seabass using 4inch gulp mullet. what would be best hook for high low setup and what jig size if fished alone.  Thinking light 1/8 oz jighead but not sure if same would be used in high low top mullet.  Recommendations please for best fit hook size that doesnt hurt tail action but gets best hookups
1 Answer
Hi Bob, Jighead size depends on the conditions that your fishing. You can use anywhere from 1/8oz to 3oz jig heads with the 4" swimming mullet with no issues. I recommend the Magictail Bigeye Jigheads. https://www.tackledirect.com/magictail-bigeye-series.html. For hooks I would recommend a Gamakatsu Baitholder hook 3/0 size or 4/0 size depending on the area that you are fishing for your Hi-Lo Rig. Models: 05413, 05414; TD Codes: GAM-0049, and GAM-0026. https://www.tackledirect.com/gamakatsu-05413-baitholder-hooks.html.https://www.tackledirect.com/gamakatsu-05414-size-4-0-bait-holder-hook.html If you are fishing backbays, estuaries or smaller bodies of water where there is smaller fish I would recommend the 3/0 size. For the ocean, I would recommend the 4/0 size to cull out the keepers. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
