Baker Heavy Duty - Great
April 28, 2022
I use the stainless heavy version, and it is great for removing deep hooksets. As long as the hook is visible and not in critical structure the hookout grasps it firmly and gives you the leverage to remove the hook without a lot of back and forth that might be stressful for the fish and potentially doing damage. This tool really gives you solid control of the hook for a cleaner removal. I use inline circle hooks, so I don't use it often, but when I need it this really is the best tool for the job.

Works well for dislodging swallowed hooks. Can pull handle tight to grip hook to push up & down & really work out those tough to get ones.
Pros
  • Works well.
Cons
  • Build quality ok for the price but not great.

Perfect for getting deep hooks out safely
December 18, 2019
These make life much easier for us and the fish, I try to keep one of appropriate size on me for whatever I’m targeting. Much easier to use than pliers on fish with smaller mouths, and a great tool to ensure a healthy release for fish that take a lure deep but aren’t necessarily gut hooked.

Do yourself a huge favor and use this tool to remove the hook from the toothy critters! I like this tool because it is looong enough to keep your fingers and hands away from the teeth of the big boys. The extra length also helps get you to the hook when you need to lean over the side of the boat.
Pros
  • extra length to keep your fingers clear of teeth.
  • V-shaped notches on the barrel to hold the hook securely while manipulating it to remove it.
Cons
  • -extra length could make it difficult to bring along in a smaller tackle bag.
