Avet Single Speed Reels
Avet single speed reels include industry leading features unlike any other reel on the market. Featuring an adjustable strike pre-set lever drag system, precision machined 6061-T6 aluminum and stainless steel components, 8 rubber sealed stainless steel ball bearings, stainless steel gears and Avet's smooth, powerful Avedrag dry drag system. Avet single speed reels are at the peak of quality and performance. All Avet single speed reels are available with or without their M.C. Cast control system. (except HXW)

Avet 2-Speed Reels
Avet 2-speed reels include all of the quality features of our single speed reels, with 2-speeds. The simple, yet reliable gear shift mechanism built into the 2-speed models is so easy to operate that it becomes second nature almost immediately. The push button located at the center of the handle arm permits shifting between the high and low gears without your hand ever leaving the handle knob, and can be shifted with or without pressure, so you can shift while cranking, or when a fish is running. All Avet 2-speed lever drag casting reels (SX-HX) are available with or without their M.C. Cast control system.

Avet M.C. Cast Anti-Backlash / Cast Control
Avet's revolutionary M.C. Cast (Magic Cast) adjustable magnetic anti-backlash cast control system is available as an option on all of their single and 2-speed casting reels, SX through HX. The M.C. Cast control system incorporates Avet's Patented Adjustable Intensity Polar Amplification Technology to create the most efficient and easy to use cast control system for a conventional style reel. From the lightest bait to heavy lures, the M.C. Cast Control System is simple to use, even if you have never before cast a conventional style reel. Simply place your thumb on the spool to cast, swing, remove your thumb from the spool and let it fly! You will only need to thumb the spool when the lure hits the water.

Avet Raptor Series Reels
Avet Raptor Series Reels are the cutting edge in compact large game reels. These reels are consistently landing shockingly large fish in relation to their compact size. Designed for use with the ultra thin, super strong superbraid lines available today, it's now possible to target large game species with a reel half of the size and weight compared to a reel traditionally designed for similar monofilament line and drag capacities. And the Raptor has the drag and cranking power to back it up.

The Avet Raptor Series comes standard with Avet's innovative 2-speed gears and a ratcheting drag lever with a positive stop strike button to prevent accidental advancement past strike. Featuring Avet's patented DUAL DIRECT DRIVE Full Surface Caliper Brake System, Raptor models put out nearly twice the drag pressure of the original Avets! There's a Raptor model that will stop any fish in the ocean, yet small and light enough to cast. If you find a fish too big for a Raptor, you probably wouldn't want it near your boat! The Raptor Series reels are the same sizes as the original Avet reels, with enhanced line capacities, and each are engineered and built to fish several line classes heavier than the original Avet Reels.

My first Avet
March 18, 2022
This was my first Avet reel. I liked it so much I've bought 3 more Avets since. One thing you should know is that all of the Avets I've bought make a rough noise when cranked. I did some research and learned that this is common. The roughness goes away after putting a drop of oil in the spool bearing and giving it a few cranks. After this "break-in" they're smooth as can be.
Pros
  • Light weight, well build, made in America.
Cons
  • Bearing needs oil.

I can’t say enough good things about this reel. Used it back up north to battle it out from tog to small tuna. Now I use it as leverage against big bull reds and large grouper on the reefs.

perfect all around option

super solid option and very flexible reel. Have used for everything from slow pitch for seabass, jigging for fluke, and chunking for stripers and blues. If i could do it all again i would opt for the narrow version but this reel gives you so much flexability in how you can use it. Own 2 of them and never had any issues. Dont cast a ton with it but no tangles due to the MC feature.

I pretty much only use this reel to cast my anchor when pin rigging for kings off the pier. But it works great and can really get some distance.

I have caught 40-50 halibut, countless rockfish and lingcod and the odd Pacific random fish... this reel performs, is easy to maintain and is just cool. The aluminum construction is nice and the reel is fun to play with when I'm sitting on a conference call for work!
Pros
  • Nice drag. Well built. Easy to maintain.
Cons
  • None so far.

Great for casting
October 29, 2020
This is the first time I could consistently cast with a conventional reel. Once I put electrical tape around the spool prior to tying line, I had very little trouble with backlash. Didn’t cast as far as I would have hoped but still get good distance. Also great as a boat reel which I believe it was designed for.
Pros
  • Magnets for anti backlash.
  • Light weight.
  • Cast ability.
  • Gear ratio.
Cons
  • No level wind.
  • Casts similar distance to spin cast.
  • (Might get better with practice, also meant for casting from boat, I cast from the beach)

Hello, sx or mxj, which one I should get for using in south florida for slow jigging and bottom fishing on the reef and wrecks, 40 or 50lb braid.
1 Answer
Both reels would work well while the mx is a bigger reel, what would dictate which reel is which rod you would be pairing with it.

I do a lot of fishing from party boats in NJ for striper, blackfish, and fluke. I narrowed my choice to the sx but wondering if the MC option is something I would want. I'm a fairly good conventional caster and want to keep it simple but with getting older maybe it would make it easier to cast from a boat. I don't mind spending the money for the MC if it not going to add something to the reel that might go bad.
1 Answer
There isnt a known problem with the MC parts causing reel defects, However this is a total matter of preference, if you are comfortable with casting conventional style reels then the MC may not be necessary.

Most people tend to like it just as a safety/back up feature just for reassurance

Hi, I am a striped bass fisherman from Maine and I was wondering wich avet reel would you think would be good for live lining mackerel and trolling. Sxj5.3, Sx 5.3?
1 Answer
Both would work for those applications but the SX would likely be more appropriate because of the higher line capacity.

Hello. Quick question on avet reels. I plan on ordering one from you. Trying to decide between the sx and mx series. Will be the mc model. Will be used mostly for striped bass on long island. Is there a power difference between the two, it seems the drags are the same? I currently use a penn international 965 and am looking for a little more power. Would either of these provide more power than the 965 or is there another reel I should look at?
1 Answer
Both the SX and the MX are extremely powerful. The MX is larger than the SX and gives you more line capacity. For your application, you would be fine with the SX.
