I am a huge fan of Avet reels of which i have many and all are still in great function.
I have had several Shimano's, ABU and Penn. Hands down for salt water ocean fishing such as, jetty for flounder, wreck fishing, deep dropping and OFF shore trolling, there are many models to fit the requirement. I have found this to be the most reliable reel out there for the money.

I own the AVET SX G2 5.3 MC and I’ve used it a few times already and it’s a very nice reel , easy to use. The MC in the reel makes it very hard to birdnest and it’s well crafted , shipped perfectly and all! Would recommend for anyone looking to cast Lever Drag!

- Tough quality reel , very small and compact but can hold a ton of line , and you can pick from an array of colors!

- Handles a bit sloppy. Not infinite anti reverse. A bit of lash. Reel foot is fairly large. Doesn't seat in a Tsunami slow pitch well.

Cant say enough for what you get at this price point. This is a solid reel, i would recommend this for all types of fishing except surf fishing. Sand will be a pain for this reel.

Works Great, But Gears Are Noisy

I have two of these SX5.3 reels that I use for my personal fishing exploits on my charter boat when wreck hopping. Holds enough line to hit bottom down to the deepwater wrecks in 200-ft plus depths. Drag is great, casting is smooth enough, but you need to have an educated thumb. Bottom dropping is flawless. Sometimes free spool isn't as "free" when the drag level is up a bit. Love the ratcheting lever for setting the lever drag, it stays where you put it and is a HUGE improvement over the G1 series reels. The one flaw of this reel is the noisy gear box. I have these two SX reels and also a JX and they all have the same problem. Still, made in USA and a great reel for the money.
Pros
- Great drag, excellent power handle, smooth casting and bottom dropping, excellent line capacity with 30-lb braid.
Cons
- - Noisy gear box when turning the crank handle
- - Sometimes free spool isn't as free with the drag level up

I like these new reels a lot, they some how feel more balanced than my raptor reels. So far I have man handled a few mud marlins and small sturgeons and they have performed great. The real test will be with a few over sized dino’s.

The G2 has no effect on the cast control on the reel. As long as you get the MC model it will be the same!

I'd suggest the SX over the SXJ for your applications. The SX will give you more line capacity which will make the reel a bit more versatile for a multitude of applications.

The G2 SX would be good bottom fishing reels. I wouldn't use this reel fishing for sharks from the surf. A rod to pair with the Avet SX G2 would be the Shimnao Trevala jigging casting rods or the Tsunami Trophy jigging casting rods. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.
