Bought it for mainly for tuna the end of 2019. But because of the covid decided to take it to cabo and test it on some striped marlin. They add'd some 80 lb floro top shot and over 4 trips, 12 fishing days my wife and I have caught 17 striped marlin using live bait. The fish ranged from 110 to 175lbs. Even though this reel was smaller and lighter it was tough as nails and a blast to use. Hoping over the next couple months finally getting to test it on some tuna.

Quality is far better than other reels in my opinion. Reel is a beast.

Although this is not as smooth as a shimano talica the raptor avet has the impressive cranking power. This reel catches big blue fin tuna. I use it as a 65lb reel with about 22lbs of drag. Beautifully machined and anodized blue. The paint is durable but as you see in many photos it is prone to scratching and boat rash.

Received in time and good shape. Haven’t had a chance to use yet.

Used this for live bait, fly line and rubber band sinker rig over at San Diego a couple of weeks ago paired with a Penn Carnage 2 80-200, 7”. This combo is a BFT slayer! Best of the best!!!

I’ve trolled for dorado, landed 100lb pound tarpon, kingfishes, bottom fished for grouper and snapper, and jigged for tuna with these reels. They are very versatile and have held up great for 5 years so far!

how I wish you could change the handle to power not this egg shape handle other than it is pretty impressive.

We purchased two Avet reels to mate with custom spiral wrapped Halibut rods. It’s a match made in heaven and we couldn’t be happier fishing for huge Alaska halibut. The “J” model stands for jigging and has a narrower profile, making for a nice compact reel that sits closer to the rod’s center line. Combined with the spiral wrapped rod, there is almost no reel wobble or side torque when reeling in a 80 lb halibut up from 150’. After several seasons our Avet reels still look and operate as good as the day we bought them.

As I began to built my offshore rod/reel arsenal I found my self wanting a reel that would work well for jigging up snapper/grouper. I got everything I was looking for in this reel. The drag is easy to adjust and smooth as fresh ash-fault. I plan to take a long range trip on the Yankee Capt and this reel with defiantly make that trip with me. Its capability to hold an seemingly endless amount of line make it ideal for the trip.

Caught a 80lb bluefin on it. Strong gears with very smooth drags. Awesome reel for offshore fishing. Can’t wait here to catch big yellowtails on yo-yo irons.
