Surfstrand 1x7 is made of corrosion resistant, spring temper stainless steel. The wire is specially stranded to deliver superior kink resistance, more realistic action, and excellent break strength. I make a lot of rigs with this wire. I am just glad that I could find the wire spool that was bigger than 30 feet. I haven't had any trouble with this wire.

- 300 foot spool for the same price as 2 30 foot spools at any of the local shops. cant beat that price.

Great fly leader for toothy critters

I have had trouble finding knot-able leaders for fly fishing for cuda and pickerel that does not curl and bond when tying to flies and this is the best yet! Can’t wait until the blues show up this summer

Great leader for decent sized sharks and bluefish for bait

Never once had an issue of being cut off with this stuff. It just seems to roll across the teeth and to the gums of even decent sized sharks without showing any really significant damage to it.

It's a wire leader, what else is there to say

We use this leader catch smaller sharks in the bay. The camo color wire I've been buying blends in with the dirty water of the bay and the sharks don't mind it a bit. I suspect they don't care about much. We started buy spools of AFW wire after we had a bunch of factory made rigs fail. Buying wire by the spool to make up your own rigs is the only way to go.

If the wire is thin enough you can make an albright or a haywire twist, if it is thicker I would use a crimp.

The AFW 7x7 surfstrand is 49 individual stainless steel wires stranded together to feel more like thread than wire. The AFW 1x7 surfstrand is 7 individual high strength stainless steel wires stranded together for increased flexibility. It really depends on the application as to which will be better.
