The American Fishing Wire Planers are designed to keep your rigging running straight at controlle ddepths. When the planer is in the water in the diving position the pressure against the blade forces the planer down. Used this to troll from a kayak for king mackerel. Works very well and even better than expected it did not trip itself when i would speed up or slow down the kayak. The size is determined by the weighting of the keel, and in my experience with about 30 feet of 65lb braid out from the rod to the planer, with a 50 ft leader to the bait the bait was at about 6 feet below the surface - as intended. If you want to present it deeper go with a bigger planer but make sure your rod can handle it.

I use this planer to slow troll live bait off the coast.. sometimes you need to get the bait a little deep without having to use huge rod (usually associated with big planers). Very easy to use

The planer works ok.Ive had better ones.works well with braid.
Pros
- Works well only with braid.I would recommend this planer but only for slow trolling with braid.
Cons
- Doesnt go as deep as other brands.Doesnt work well past six knots speed.Should have a bit more angle to help keep it down.doesnt work well with nylon.pops out constantly.
