Damaged when received
February 6, 2022
The ceramic insert in the tip of the rod was missing when I received the rod. I found this or other missing ceramic inserts to be a common problem after reading many reviews. I kept the rod because I have a friend who is a custom rod builder and he was willing to replace the tip. Based on the number of reviews pointing out this problem, Abu Garcia should take the initiative to use better line guides on this rod.
Pros
  • Nice action rod.
Cons
  • Consistent reviews pointing out missing ceramic insert(s) from the line guides when the rod is received.

its a solid rod and imo one of the best $50 options, i had a 7'mh that gave me 4 good years, and another 2 after that with a replacement tip before i had to retire it after messing up replacing the tip again. (the rod did not break but the guide insert had gotten knocked out from hitting a tree casting, 100% my fault)

I also have a 7'6 heavy that is 4 years in as my heavy frogging/flipping rod.
it hasn't broken, rod tip still intact, but the reel seat has separated and now my silvermax is stuck on the rod. not sure how I'm going to get it off, if the rod ever breaks i guess ill figure it out.

overall solid rod that stands up to everything except for tree limbs and 65lb braid.

I picked one of these up on sale for $35 about 2 years ago when I first started getting real into bass fishing and bait casters great rod to start out on. It has decent sensitivity for the price. It’s fairly light weight feels good in your hand. I snapped the tip of the rod off in my truck door. Oops....
