This reel has handled many tog (up to 8lb), and fluke most recently on the nantucket shoals up to 9lbs with 24 ounces of lead. This reel has handled everything i have thrown at it, and all i do for up keep is wash it down and spray it with reel magic after every trip. Not the sexiest reel spec wise but it gets the job done! Though it handled lead over 16 ounces i feel this reel is best used for trips requiring 16 ounces or less.

After 3 months of medium duty saltwater, the drag totally gave out. It cant even retrieve a sinker. It required constant maintenance and cleaning to keep it functional, and let me down more than once on fishing trips. If you're in doubt, read the reviews on the Garcia website. I experienced pretty much everything described in the 1 star reviews. I returned it to Abu Garcia.

I am looking to use this reel for pike fishing, and I want to throw 1½
Lures like swimbaits and x raps. I would be using 50lb. Sufix. Your input is greatly appreciated.

This reel would be a good fit for your application, but using a 50 lb braid will limit your line capacity. I would ESTIMATE that the reel will hold just under 200 yards of 50lb braid, which you could most likely get away with. As of right now this particular model is not available from our suppliers, but the other models of the Ambassadeur in the 6500 will suit your application.
