Use this reel for everything from trolling to bottom fishing and this reel is an absolute beast.

Don't really like it for saltwater use though. My uncle has gone through two already saltwater fishing with it.

This is a nice reel. I use it for trolling and fishing for cat fish in the bay. The drag is strong and smooth, has a decent clicker for fish alert. A little on the heavy side but nice reel.

What nonChina made reel will you recommend in place of an Abu Garcia 7001 for large catfish? I would desire a bait clicker.

As far as made in the USA reels for catfishing, either the Avet SX lever drag reel (AVE-0019) or the Seigler Star Drag reel (TUH-0031). Both hold plenty of line and have a bait clicker. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
