Marauder is the true-tracking lure of choice for wahoo catchers on the West Coast and around the world. Pull these lures up to 12 knots and hang on. Rarely needs adjusting, but slight turn of line tie will do the trick.

Hook up ratio can be better
July 13, 2019
not sure if it's cause the hook can wrap around the lure's body cuz it is 1/4 inch too long or what..... maybe ill add some rescue tape around the swivel to prevent the hook from flopping around everywhere.

Another go to Wahoo lure

Too easy to catch Wahoo with these. I have all but eliminated skirted lures from my spread because these produce ever time I go out.

  • None

Large Skipjack Marauder
April 8, 2017
Great lure, nice colors, tracks great at high speed.
Pros
  • Large lure gets more bites to me than the medium size Marauder.
Cons
  • After a few trips and fish hits, the lure seems to fill with water and track erratic. Solution would be to drill a couple holes on the bottom.

Lure performance
April 8, 2017
Very good quality. Tracks well at my trolling speed between 8-10 knots. I notice the large lure has more strikes, but the misses are also more.
Pros
  • Lots of hits with this large lure.
Cons
  • More misses than the medium Marauder.

Always pull one off the corner. Catches the big dolphin and wahoo love it.
Pros
  • Catches fish. Period
Cons
  • Sometimes swims erratically and will jump out of water when reeling in if not careful.

Kona, Hi
Marauders work, however.....
October 13, 2014
I use marauders on a consistent basis. I like the large orange/black. They work great for wahoo. I troll them at higher speeds(10 knots+) and run em close to the boat with my jet heads on the longer lines. I use a 300# mono leader but I see a lot of the other captains using wire leaders. I like to use them as they are factory made but I've seen other guys change out the hooks. I see guys using double hooks on them, too. I've caught wahoo on the medium black/purple and the large orange/black.
On 3 separate occasions, on the 3 different large marauders, I've had one of the hooks break off the lure after a strike. Each time the break occurs at the stainless steel ring that connects the large swivel to the body of the lure. These are newer, rust free, seemingly perfect condition lures. I've e-mailed Braid and sent them pictures of the lures but they failed to respond. Disappointing. I've like to hear an opinion.
Also, Some of the marauders will split at the seam, on the head of the lure and absorb water. This problem occurs often and the rattle fails to work after this has happened.
Pros
  • They catch wahoo. Less time replacing lure skirts.
Cons
  • Expensive. The quality of the lure does not match the price. Poor life expectancy of the product.

Marauder on wahoo
May 2, 2014
I always have a Marauder in my pattern when tracking down wahoo. I've recently tried the skipjack model and have had great results!
Pros
  • Attracts wahoo to the boat. The strong vibrations are a definite turn on for the fish.
Cons
  • The single hooks are not super effective. I would guesstimate that the lure has a 50% strike to hook up ratio. The wahoo WILL go after the other lures in your spread even after they miss the maurader. Some of the other captains are using/experimenting with double hooks on the lure but I'm not sure how it effects the overall performance. It would be helpful if Braid would give some suggestions on multiple options for hook rigs.
