Great holder
December 21, 2018
I’m very happy with this rod holder it’s the SS-2 but still worked with my 12’ rod. Only caught small fish nothing over two pounds but it stayed in place with a long rod.
Pros
  • Folds in half and has a rubber ring to secure it. Comes with a nice case. Light weight, strong and go?s into sand with ease
Cons
  • Haven?t come across any yet besides that I can?t find any other ones for sale.

Good Portable Sand Spike
August 9, 2017
It's well-made, light, and portable. It can go into the sand or in between rocks, etc. The included storage pouch is not bad. I would like to also get the longer version, SS-3, but it's out of stock.

Light weight sand spikes good for the rocks too
July 21, 2016
Used the SS-2 and SS-3 3-Tand Sand Spikes on beaches and rocky shores in California and Hawaii for couple of years. For me the SS-2 spikes were a little short for securing rods on the beach but they work great on the rocky shores. The fact that it is very light makes it easy to carry attached to my pack and comes in handy when you want to set your rods and secure them without damage from the rocks. Although the carry bags are starting to show wear, the spikes are still in excellent condition . . . just rinsed with fresh water after each use.

Great Tool for Mobile Surf Fishing with Light Gear
January 25, 2014
This spike is a perfect addition to Southern California surf fishing style with light gear and lots of walking. Easily attaches to a backpack or sling pack when folded. Opens easily and provides a means to keep the pole out of the sand during rest breaks or as a holder when still fishing with light tackle. Perfect when changing riggings. May not be the best choice for heavier applications. Nice quality build.
Pros
  • Quality build.
  • Compact.
  • Convenient.
Cons
  • May be too light/short for some applications.

Would this be able to handle a avet 50exw with very light drag setting for sharks or Goliath? In case it were to get pulled out of sand. Light Drag setting so it doesn't get yanked out of sand.
1 Answer
Goliaths may be too much for this sand spike. I wouldn't risk it.
