Great value!

Love this rod! I got it on sale here at TackleDirect and the value for the money is unmatched. Action is light and fast and the backbone is solid. My only nitpick is that the tip seems a little lighter than other rods in the 8-17lbs line range. Jigging a 1.5oz Spro bucktail is a little more work (softer tip equals less response) than I would expect for a rod in this weight/action class. Also the way that the reel seat screws on, there is a gap between the cap and the rod so there is a little wobble. But overall, the value this rod provides far outweighs any of these minor complaints!
Pros
  • Value
  • Look
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Softer tip than other 8-17lbs class rods

13 Fishing's Omen Green rod is superb, it has all the features most people would just start to get on a big name brand rod at 2 to 3 times higher the price. When buying the rod, I do suggest moving down 1 power level from your big name brand rod's power. I bought a medium heavy and it reacts more like a heavy rod.
Pros
  • Saltwater safe and better value than the big name rods

I bought 2 M action and 1 MH action rods. The M action were in very good condition and while I haven't used them yet, they are very nice indeed! The MH action has the top eyelet slightly off center but I don't think it will effect anything; also on the first eyelet, the epoxy was slightly cracked.
Pros
  • nice feel
  • beautiful rod
Cons
  • eyelet epoxy cracked
  • eyelet off center

I bought two of these rods, the OGS72M and the OGS72MH. Went fishing on the bay Monday for stripers. While the MH gave good service the M shattered on the first cast. This was a underhand lob cast so the rod the rod was not fully loaded. This was my second try with 13Fishing rods. Had a bait casting rod do the same thing. First cast "gone".
Cons
  • Nice rod to look at but not to use.

I was shopping around for inshore rods to match up with a new spinning reel my girlfriend had gotten me for Christmas. It came down between this 13 Fishing Omen Green and a St. Croix Inshore Mojo. Both are around the $120-150 price point and fit what I was planning on using it for. However, the deal on TackleDirect for $69.99 gave me no choice but to go with this one, saving around 40% off the base price. I can't be happier with this purchase and also bought myself the other 7'2 MH model also.

Overall, a great rod with a very nice hook holder.

What's the line rating? What size reels are optimal; ie. 2500 series, 3000 series, 4000 series, etc.
1 Answers
Mike, Hello the line rating is 10-17lb mono. I would suggest going with 3000-4000 size depending on manufacturer.
