For bass that are used to fast retrieve plugs, it's best to really slow down using a bare octopus or circle hook. Using a wacky hooking technique and let the worm flutter down on a 2-3 foot long fluorocarbon tippet. Above, don't be in a hurry in areas with heavy fishing pressure.
- As many others have said, you can't fish a worm too slow and before setting the hook; count to 15, do a slow tightening of the line as you set the hook.
- These are best fished with either octopus or better yet circle hooks. These latter hook styles really decrease the rate of "gut hookups when fishing slower techniques and work much better with wacky techniques.
- A great addition for near shore or bank fish action.
- Good for a faster retrieve - near surface - for more top-water action. Also, good for near bottom slow or stop and go retrieve. For the latter, use a hook on a 2-3 foot fluorocarrbon tippet, only light line technique and don't bee afraid to go super slow on the retieve
- Tough to fish with in extremely heavily weeded areas with anything but burying the hook back into the worm.
